Frequently Asked Questions
This is a common misconception. In fact we witness Homoeopathic medicines acting very fast in many cases every day. Homoeopathy medicines start acting on the patient from the moment they're taken. In acute cases, there is very quick relief and cure of the diseases, like fevers, diarrhea, respiratory and urinary tract infections. Even in chronic diseases, where the diseases are deep rooted and become part of the body nature or constitution of the person, Homoeopathic medicines give quick relief, but the eradication of disease needs longer time, depending on the nature of the disease. For example, in the case of Bronchial Asthma, an acute episode or attack of asthma can be relieved within few hours or days in homoeopathy, just like conventional medicine. But to root out the disease from the constitution of the person, it may take 3 to 5 years. Is it not better to take Homoeopathic medication for few years and get rid of diseases like, Allergies, Asthma, Migraine, Rheumatoid Arthritis, Anxiety disorders, Psoriasis, Etc, instead of suffering and taking massive doses of drugs for a lifetime? So, the time taken to cure a given case depends on degree of chronicity and the nature of the disease.
No. Homoeopathy is the only system of medicine with the least food restrictions among all the existing systems of medicine. We ask patients to avoid taking food and drink for five minutes before and after taking the medicine. Homoeopathic medicines act through nerves of the tongue (oral medicines). If we keep the mouth and tongue clean for some time, a few minutes so that medicines act quickly and uninterruptedly. Except this instruction, there are no food restrictions specifically while taking Homoeopathic medicines as such. Food restrictions may be imposed on patients depending on nature of the disease and individual's intolerance to certain food items. Suppose, if the patient is a Diabetic we need to restrict sweets and carbohydrates, in the similar way if the patient is a Hypertensive we need to restrict salt intake in the diet. Similarly if the patient is Allergic to certain food items we tell to restrain from such food item for some time, till he develops tolerance to such food items. We do advise our patients to not to over indulge in tea, coffee, alcohol, tobacco, and all other stimulants, which are harmful to health.
Diagnostic method of the disease is same as that of conventional medicine. Many people have the wrong notion that medical tests like, blood, urine, x-rays, are not considered by Homoeo physicians. In fact, all the investigations like, hematological, biochemical, immunoassays, biopsy, culture, endoscopy, imagiology, i.e. x-rays, angiograms, C.T, M.R.I scanning, etc are very important to Homoeopathic physicians, just like any other specialists or super specialists. In fact, all these technical developments in the medical field are very helpful to Homoeopathic doctors in the process of diagnosis and objective evaluation of the case and management.
It is not necessary to take medicines in two different systems of medicine simultaneously for the same disease. While the patient is taking Homoeopathic medicine for a chronic disease, if they get any acute disease, like fever, diarrhea, cold and cough, then the patient is at liberty to use any other medicine, if they are not able to reach the Homoeo doctor in time. They can continue to take Homoeopathic medication without interruption. If there is an acute exacerbation of chronic disease like Asthma, Migraine, it is better to go to the same Homoeopathic doctor if it is possible. Otherwise they can take any medicine for temporary relief but do inform your Homoeo physician.
Many people think that Homoeopaths are against surgery. It is not so. Surgery is a specialized technique, where mechanical manipulation of organs or tissues is made, wherever medical treatment is not suitable or sufficient. In fact, surgery starts, where medicine ends. The science of surgery is used by homoeopaths, whenever it is necessary. We do try to treat cases with medicines and avoid surgery to the extent possible in cases like tonsillitis, Hemorrhoids, Fissures, Fistulas, Peptic ulcers, Small uterine fibroids, Ovarian cysts etc. There are certain cases, where surgery is needed for which we do recommend that course of action. All accidents, fractures, congenital defects, large tumors, etc., need surgical help, for which we do diagnose and refer cases for surgery. All the latest techniques like organ replacements, artificial implants are recommended when the tissue degeneration or organ damage is irreparable. Homoeo medication can be complementary to surgery in certain cases, like prevention of sepsis, scarring, adhesions and proper healing of wound etc. There are very effective remedies to deal with effects of anesthesia, shock etc.
Auxiliary methods like Yoga, Pranayama, Meditation, Exercises, and Naturopathic methods do go very well along with Homoeopathic medication and we do recommend them whenever necessary. These methods have no conflict with Homoeopathic principles or practice. In fact Homoeopathic science itself is based on nature's law "Similia Similibus Curentur".
